UPDATE: - (10-25-07) Statement from the County of San Diego: Air Quality Update and Precautions for Returning to Homes and Work Air quality in San Diego County remains unhealthy, especially in Oceanside and Chula Vista for everyone, and all across the region for sensitive groups due to particulate pollution, according to Bill Brick, Senior Meteorologist for the Air Pollution Control District. Tomorrow’s forecast is for slightly better air quality in the more populated parts of the County, but smoke-impacted areas will continue to be unhealthy for everyone and the fire-damaged areas will be unhealthy for the sensitive populations. As County residents begin returning to their homes

 

and work, the County of San Diego HHSA (Health and Human Services Agency) recommends that precautions be taken to minimize exposure to ash and dust that have resulted from the firestorm. Dr. Wilma Wooten, M.D., M.P.H., County of San Diego Public Health Officer, reminds residents that air quality can be an issue for many days after the fires are out and advises people to take special precautions when cleaning their homes, businesses, and neighborhoods. The most important thing to remember is to lightly mist indoor and outdoor hard surfaces before gently sweeping ash. On lightly dusted areas, a damp cloth or wet mop may be all that is needed. Brick and Wooten recommend limiting prolonged exertion outdoors until the weekend.

Statement from the County of San Diego: Residents evacuated from the San Pasqual Reservation may reenter certain areas.

Statement from the County of San Diego: Carveacres residents must evacuate in the areas: North of Wilson Creek South of Pearson Canyon East of Kearchoffer Flat West of Horsethief Canyon Lawson Valley residents must evacuate in the areas: South of Loveland Resevoir North of the Community of Lyons Valley East of Beaver Hollow West of Kearchoffer Flats.

Portions Of Valley Center have been opened.

Statement from the County of San Diego:The communities of Lawson Valley and Carveacre have been ordered to evacuate.

Statement from the City of San Diego: Campuses in the San Diego Unified School District are scheduled to reopen to students on Tuesday, October 30, based on current conditions. All district employees, including teachers, are asked to report to work on Monday, October 29, to get schools ready for the return of students. Palomar Outdoor School, the district's sixth grade camp, will remain closed until further notice. All field trips requiring bus transportation will be canceled through Friday, November 2.

Statement from the County of San Diego: Evacuation Notice Lifted for Olive Hill Area of Fallbrook The County of San Diego has lifted the evacuation order for parts of the Olive Hill area in Fallbrook. They include: --All residents that have access to their homes from Highway 76 to Burma Road.

Statement from the County of San Diego: Potrero residents will be allowed to reenter today at 12:00 pm. Highway 94 will remain closed west of Potrero. The Tecate Border Crossing will reopen to passenger traffic today at 12:00 pm.

Statement from the San Diego County Sheriff's Department: On 10-25-07 at about 3:15 pm, a Border Patrol Agent from the Brown Field Station located four human bodies in the area of Highway 94 ½ mile east of Barrett Smith Road, Dulzura. The agent was driving westbound on Highway 94 as he was looking north at a steep rocky hillside. He saw something out of ordinary. Upon closer inspection, he determined the object was that of a human body. The area was checked and three more bodies were found. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Bomb/Arson unit and County Medical Examiner were subsequently notified to conduct an investigation. Due to steep rugged terrain, the bodies were retrieved with the assistance of personnel from the Brown Field Station and BORSTAR . The bodies were transported to the Medical Examiners Office for further examination. There were no obvious signed of foul play. The victims appeared to have expired due to fire related injuries caused by the Harris Fire.

Statement from the San Diego County Sheriff's Department:On October 24, 2007, at 5:04 p.m., Campo deputies arrested two subjects for looting on the U.S. side of Tecate. The suspects were observed leaving a burned out residence carrying a large bag. Deputy Nunez tracked the suspects towards the Mexican border and captured both suspects with help from Border Patrol agents. All property taken was recovered and the suspects were booked into the San Diego County jail on looting charges.

Statement from the County of San Diego: UPDATE: - (10-26-07) Evacuation Order Lifted for Highway 67 Corridor Residents living along the Highway 67 corridor from the Poway City limits to Maple View Street are now allowed to return home. Evacuation Order Lifted for Areas of Wildcat Canyon Areas in and around Wildcat Canyon Road south of the Barona Reservation are now open for repopulation.

Wynola, Cuyamaca and Pine Hills evacuation orders lifted All residents of the Wynola, Cuyamaca and Pine Hills communities may return to their homes. Evacuation notices lifted for Pala, Rancho Heights, Pauma Valley/Highway 76 corridor, south of Lake Wohlford Evacuation notices have been lifted for the Pala area; Rancho Heights area; Pauma Valley/Highway 76 corridor west of Valley Center Road at I -15; and the areas south of Lake Wohlford including the Bear Valley and the Guejito Ranch. These areas are open to residents and local businesses only. Evacuation Order Lifted for Western Jamul Residents from the western Jamul communities are allowed to return home. The area will be open to residents and IDs will be checked. Residents will have access via Highway 94. Road closures will remain at Lions Valley Road and the Skyline Truck Trail; Highway 94 at Honey Springs Road; and Highway 94 at Otay Lakes Road. Evacuation Order Lifted for Areas of Valley Center The Rincon and San Pasqual Reservations and areas north of Lake Wohlford are now open to residents and businesses only. Rainbow area now opened The following area is now to open to residents and the general public alike. The area is specified by a box created by: · I-15 to the west · Valley Center to the east · Old Castle Road to the south · Riverside County to the north. Del Dios highway partially opened Del Dios Highway between Rancho Drive and Elm Lane is now open.

Statement from the County of San Diego: Update on Dehasa-Harbison reeentry The following areas of the Dehasa-Harbison area are open for reentry: All areas north of Willow Glen Drive All areas east of El Cajon All areas west of South Grade Road and Tavern Road All areas south of Interstate 8. Highway Re-opening The Del Dios Highway was reopened at 1:30 p.m. Drives still need to be cautious as there may be some downed power lines across side roads within the community of Del Dios that utility crews are still working on. .

Statement from the County of San Diego: Water Available for Ramona Livestock Well water is available for livestock at the Ramona Rodeo at 421 Aqua Lane. This well water is not certified for human consumption, but has served livestock for years at the Rodeo Grounds. Residents can bring their own containers for livestock water. As stated previously, there are bottles of water, portable bathrooms and showers available for humans at this same location. Using this water will help to prevent the use of municipal water supplies while it is being sanitized and pressure is being brought up to standards.

Statement from the County of San Diego: 7:17pm Water Connections Restored For Some Essential Services in Ramona Ramona Municipal Water District operators expect to restore water connections to some essential businesses and services, such as supermarkets and medical offices, late tonight. Water quality testing will be continuing for the next 48 hours. The County Department of Public Health has told residents not to drink the water until further notice.

UPDATE: - (10-26-07) Evacuation orders were lifted for all residents affected by the Witch and Harris fires. The La Jolla Indian Reservation, Lake Henshaw Recreation Area and Palomar Mountain areas all remain under mandatory evacuation orders.

UPDATE: - (10-31-07) All evacuation orders have been lifted. The Harris Fire is 100% contained and the Witch Fire is 99% contained.

UPDATE: - (11-17-07) Investigators have determined that the Witch, Guejito and Rice Fires were caused by power lines. The cause of the Harris Fire has not been determined.
