SAN DIEGO, CA - (1-22-08) A San Diego police canine was stabbed by a man in the Talmadge area Tuesday night. Officers responded to a report of a man threatening people with a knife at the Travelodge Motel on the 5900 block of El Cajon Boulevard around 8:40pm. Officers

initially used a beanbag gun in an attempt to persuade the suspect to drop the weapon and give up. When officers approached to suspect on a third floor balcony, they say he advanced on them with the knife held in threatening manor. The K9 officer released the dog and fired one shot at the suspect. That round did not hit him. Officers say they were able to get the suspect in custody, but not before he stabbed the dog. The dog was taken to an animal hospital for treatment. The suspect, identified as Patrick Gautier (43), was taken to an area hospital for treatment. No officers were injured.
