Shooting at Santana High

SANTEE, CA - PRELIMINARY REPORT - (3-6-01) A Shooting at Santana High School in Santee Monday morning left at least 2 people dead and 13 others injured. Authorities first received reports of shots fired inside the school around 9:20am. According to witnesses an unidentified student (photo above right and bottom right), armed with a handgun, opened fire.

UPDATE: The two people killed in the attack have been identified as fourteen year old Bryan Zuckor and seventeen year old Randy Gordon, both students. Eleven other students were injured; Scott Marshal (16), Travis Gallegos (18), Karla Layva (16), Melissa Mcnultey (15), Trevor Edwards (17), Ray Serrato (17), Heather Cruz (15), Barry Gibson (18), James Jackson (19), Matthew Heier (17) and Tristan Salladay (14). Two adults were also injured, student teacher Tim Estes and supervisor Peter Ruiz .

3-7-01 Authorities are asking any students who eye witnessed this incident and have not been interviewed by police to call authorities at 858-467-4400 Monday-Friday or 858-565-5200 on weekends and after hours.

SANTEE, CA - (3-7-01) Thousands of people came to Santana High School Tuesday. They brought gifts and flowers in support of the two students killed and 13 others injured during the shooting their Monday.

The school was reopened Tuesday afternoon. Students were allowed to pick up belongings. Classes are scheduled to start up Wednesday morning.


Suspect Appears in Court

EL CAJON, CA - (3-8-01) Accused Santana High School gunman, Charles Andrew Williams, made his first appearance in court Wednesday. Fifteen year old Williams is being charged as an adult. He faces 28 charges, including 2 for murder. Williams' attorneys requested a two week delay. That delay was granted.


Williams Family Makes Statement

SAN DIEGO, CA - (3-10-01) The family of accused Santana High School shooter Charles Andrew Williams released the following statement Friday:

The Williams family would like to express their deepest sympathy to the family and friends of both boys who were killed. They send their heartfelt condolences to the people who were injured, and to their loved ones. The Williams family's thoughts and prayers are with all of them as well as the students and staff at Santana High School and the community of Santee. They would like all of you to know that they were horror-stricken by the events that took place at Santana High School and they remain shocked and confused. They would also like to thank the courageous and heroic efforts of law enforcement, paramedics and other individuals who were called to duty that sad day.
